At the start of this project, Darelene provided us with two reference images and a short sound bite as creative inspiration. From those initial cues, I interpreted elements that evoked a sense of elegance and contrast—what stood out to me was the imagery of a luxurious ice cream, a high-tech sphere, and the fluid motion of ice skating. These visuals sparked the idea of merging precision, luxury, and winter themes, which ultimately led me to draw inspiration from the style of a Rolex advertisement. From there, the concept for a "winter watch" was born—sophisticated, crisp, and timeless. I developed the tagline “Time Never Freezes” to anchor the idea, emphasizing the enduring nature of time even in the stillness of winter. The result was a bold, visually striking piece that combined modern design with a classic, high-end feel.
After receiving feedback and being asked to expand on the concept, I decided to reimagine the idea as an advertisement for Netflix. I was drawn to how Netflix occasionally displays ads when you pause a show or movie—it's a subtle yet effective way of delivering content without disrupting the viewing experience. That approach inspired me to create an ad that feels seamless and integrated, much like Netflix’s own minimal interruption strategy. At the same time, I continued drawing from the aesthetic of Rolex advertisements, which I’ve always admired for their clean, minimal design and focus on a single, powerful element—typically the watch itself. I wanted to capture that same sense of elegance and clarity in my own design, keeping the layout uncluttered and allowing the message and imagery to speak for themselves. The result was a Netflix ad that combined the sleek visual language of luxury branding with the functionality and tone of modern streaming culture.
Lastly, I created an Instagram ad to visualize how the concept would appear on social media. This step allowed me to explore the ad’s effectiveness in a real-world digital context, where design needs to be both eye-catching and immediately communicative. I developed a mockup to simulate how the ad would look on a user’s feed, paying close attention to layout, contrast, and readability at a smaller scale. This not only helped bring the project to life but also provided a practical perspective on how the design would function in an actual marketing scenario. Seeing it framed in a familiar digital space made the concept feel more tangible and complete.
